What is the Holy Name Society?

Please download Java(tm). The mission of the Society is to foster a reverence for the Person of Christ by assisting its members to develop a sound spiritual life.  The primary objective of the Society is the honor and glory of God and the personal sanctification of its members by acts of love and devotion to the Most Holy Name of Jesus.

The Society has an organizational structure with four officers and six standing committees.  The general meetings are held on the first Wednesday after the first Sunday of each month excluding July and August.  Our members receive communion as a group at the 8:00 AM Mass, the second Sunday of each month.  Immediately following this Mass, the Society provides pastries and coffee in Fr. Child's Hall for all members of the parish.

Our organization presently has 169 dues-paying members.  Many of the members participate in the various activities sponsored by the Society.  In addition to hearing guest speakers at all the regular monthly meetings, the members are able to engage in Society programs which help individuals in need or raise funds for charitable organizations.

The Society sponsors many activities open to all members of the parish.  The most signification one is the Annual Communion Luncheon.  More than two hundred people attended the luncheon each year, with the last one being held on Sunday, April 6, 2008.  We also have in the past sponsored two free showings of "The Passion" film during Lent for all members of the parish.

The men most often are involved in spiritual-type activities such as attending Days of Recollection at San Alfonso Retreat House twice each year.  In addition, they attend Exposition each Friday, say the Rosary at wakes of members, visit sick members and provide transportation for poor or handicapped individuals.

The Society has provided various trips open to all members of the parish which included a cruise to Bermuda, bus trips to Monmouth Park, the Renault Winery and Lancaster PA.  The Annual Charity Golf Classic was available to parishioners and because of many business and individual sponsors the Society raised considerable funds for charitable organizations.

What the Holy Name Society Does

We sponsor Holy Hours, days of recollection, retreats; we recite the Rosary in a group for deceased members and parishioners and have established a prayer chain for those who are ill. Our members act as altar servers, lectors, ushers, Eucharistic ministers, choir members, and volunteers in many parish ministries.
We sponsor social activities such as bus tours and a day at Monmouth Park. Each year we sponsor a Charity Golf Classic, resulting in our donation of thousands of dollars to worthy local charities and services.

Our Society receives communion at the 8:00 AM Mass on the second Sunday of each month and hosts refreshments after Mass for all parishioners.
